Conviviality and Coffee

Another semester (and season) at YWAM ¡Hola! is wrapping up. When I talked to Charlie this week he said he can't even think about coming home yet (¡Dec 17!) because he has so much to do between now and then.

This semester has been focused on pioneering and leading ministry. Charlie is especially interested in urban ministry and has focused his project on that space. The ministry he and his partner (from Sweden) have created involves coffee, conversation, relationship, sharing the gospel, and creating disciples. They have created an in-depth ministry plan including a purpose, vision, mission, and values. (and a logo - see above)

One of the values they listed was Conviviality. I had never heard this word. The value is based on Romans 12:19-21: Initially, I thought this could not be the right verse. The Latin root for conviviality (con-viver) simply means living together! In the noun form—convivium—it refers more specifically to common life around the table. The goal of the YWAM ministry is to overcome the ultimate evil with the Good News of the Gospel message. Charlie's project and selection of this verse and value align in a way I had not initially seen.

The YWAM ¡Hola! Pioneering and Leadership class will be traveling to Guadalajara tomorrow morning to spend the weekend presenting to the YWAM area leadership team of Mexico. They are excited to see how the work of the YWAM ¡Hola! students can further the ministry and evangelism opportunities of the YWAM teams in Mexico. Following the presentations, there will be a graduation ceremony for this semester.

Charlie will be traveling home on December 16 / 17. Please pray for him through this busy week, through travel, and especially as he makes decisions for what's next. YWAM has opened doors to potential ministry and leadership. Pray for clarity in moving forward.
