Arrival

If you ever wonder if your time spent in nursery, teaching Sunday school, Catechism or Cadets, making meals, or maintaining spaces for middle school students to play Romans and Christians makes a difference in the lives of our church youth - it does! Charlie was blessed on Sunday morning to be sent off by the church family who has poured into his life over the 15+ years he has been a member at Bauer CRC. He was commissioned and sent off surrounded in prayer.

Following the church service we dropped him off at Grand Rapids airport where he flew first to Dallas and then on the Mexico City. Mexico City is the capital of Mexico as well as the most populous cities in North America. Greater Mexico City is home to almost 22 million people, which earns its place as the sixth largest in the world. The city is at an altitude of 7350 feet which is higher than Denver. Having been founded in 1325 it is rich in history. (thank you to Wikipedia for these facts). Charlie is making his home at YWAM (Youth with a Mission) ¡HOLA! just a few miles South of the city's center.

After some cell service complications, I received a text from Charlie last night. They he had a very busy day with Bible study starting at 5:00 am followed by a game of soccer, a few hours of class, worship, and introductions, followed by a trip to the supermarket (this is a word that is evidence of the cultural influence taking place). Charlie says, "I met a bunch of people and they are all really nice but most of them speak very little or no english...it is very interesting."

For those of you who know Charlie, you know a language barrier will not stand in his way of creating relationships. He is committed to learning the language and immersion is a great way to do that.

In addition to immersion in the Spanish language, he will be immersed in the Word of God. Praise God for this opportunity, for safe travel, and for a good first day.

I will make updates as I have information and specific prayer requests, but until then, just pray for safety and that God will use and grow Charlie and his classmates for His purpose.

Thank you all.
